What is Audio / Video Receiver?
An audio/video receiver is a product deigned to perform multiple functions. Its job in the home theater system is to process audio and video signals, amplify sound to be sent to the speakers, perform as an AM/FM tuner, and work as a switching device for multiple other components. Some newer models include satellite radio and HD Radio tuners as well. A/V Receivers contain the decoders to process numerous types of audio signals, found in multiple format on movie and TV soundtracks.
