Subwoofer
What is Subwoofer?
The subwoofer (or "sub") is a speaker designed to play only the lowest frequencies present in a movie or music recording (the bass). The normal playback range is of frequencies from approximately 20 Hz to 150-200 Hz. The subwoofer is tuned with the other speakers in the system so that It plays those frequencies which can’t be reproduced by the rest of the speaker package. The subwoofer is the ".1" of a 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 channel system because it normally reproduces only about 10% of what has been recorded.
