Surround Sound

In 1976, George Lucas set out to raise the standards of sound performance in cinema. He had been disappointed by the poor sound quality he experienced in theaters when watching his recent film, Star Wars. George tapped the shoulder of an audio engineering veteran named Tomlinson Holman. Together they created THX. As a result, they raised awareness of film production quality and its reproduction in theaters. George and Tomlinson believed that all the elements of film reproduction should work together to create a “willing suspension of disbelief.” Meaning simply, that the audience should forget that they are watching a film and believe that they are part of and witness to something real! Tomlinson, in particular believed that sound had the most significant impact on this.
Sound elicits emotional response in ways few other sensory experiences do. It quickens the pulse and shortens the breath. It sheds a tear and releases a laugh. Sound envelopes and transports us.
No doubt then that we, at MODIA, take it seriously and emphasize the importance of surround sound performance in our theater designs. Our theaters provide the vehicle for your flights of fancy.
